Screenplay Script: ET (1982) Deconstructed

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

From our deconstruction of hundreds of Hollywood blockbusters….

The Hero’s Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the Hollywood movies we have deconstructed are based on this template.

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.

The Hero’s Journey:

a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

c) Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

and more…

Writing Non-fiction

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

All of us are authors, and all of us have a book already written within us that needs to come out.

I believe that fiction is the easiest to write because none of what you write can, or needs to be verified and you are only limited by your imagination. On the other hand nonfiction requires verification of facts and the book usually has references to the material that you have used. These facts can come from the documentation of others or your own. But the material is usually taken as truth or fact and supported by the documents you have used.

Then there is the Grey area that I write about… Philosophy! Philosophy always appears as truth and it is always controversial because in truth, truth is an illusion. My truth is not yours, and yours is not someone else’s. Philosophy can always be argued from one’s point of view and it is nonfiction from that observation. From the position of the other it may be fantasy or imagination.

In truth, philosophically speaking, fiction and nonfiction are the same, as both come from the imagination and are subject to one’s interpretation and the ability to manifest one’s thoughts into physical symbols that are observable by others.

The wonderful thing about fiction is that the events become probabilities in physical form at some level of consciousness and are nonfiction. If I think of a lying under a palm tree on a white sandy beach on a tropical ocean one early sunny morning, that thought becomes your thought and the probability exists that either one of us can experience it. It becomes a probability and only then needs to be experienced. All thoughts are the beginnings of any probability whether it is a sandy beach or Aliens attacking the earth.

The distinction between fiction and nonfiction is determined by our ability to allow our imaginations to accept them.

The Bible and other Holy texts are considered to be nonfiction, and yet they are the texts that are the least likely to be verified. The pages in these texts where written by many different authors, sometimes hundreds of years after the facts, if they did in fact occur, and the stories were selected for inclusion by people and organizations with an agenda. Many of the stories in the Bible were created to demonstrate aspects of morality and social behavior. Many stories have been left out deliberately.

We generally accept these books as historical facts because we were told to, even though critical thinking and reason suggests otherwise. Facts, truth and imagination have been blended into foggy images that transcend humanities ability to distinguish the difference, fueled by fear and ignorance. What is fiction, what is not?

We look to an imaginary future and go back into the past to create it. Or we go back into the past to create a future book. The book the waits within you, is the future waiting to be created, it is already present in the moment and although it is nonfiction, it will be judged by others in the future as either.

Humanity has agreed at some level of consciousness to accept things as truth, or “nonfiction,” if it is within the realm of possibility or if there is a strong human desire, want or need to believe it.

We as a people had a strong desire to fly to the moon and have done it, (maybe). We as a people have strong desires to create new technology and we do it, and we believe in technology because we can see it working. These areas are not that Grey, because we want to believe. Predictions that we have made hundreds or thousands of years ago are now observable in our experience and easy to accept. Most believe that technology can achieve anything, from creating a sailing ship that moves past the abyss waiting at the edge of the earth, to the space ship that flies through it.

It is the same imagination that creates physical objects or technology, which creates philosophy about who and what we are.

There is a strong desire within humanity, or need to believe and accept that there is more to us than what we can see, taste, smell, feel or hear. We have moved away from our ability to experience the soul and the mind as other parts of ourselves. We consider these aspects of self as fictional or beyond reach and best left to the imagination of philosophers, priests and other self appointed experts. Most of us experience these aspects only when we read about them or attend presentations or Sunday services, as they are brought to our attention.

As one moves away from the philosophy of others and accepts their own truth as real and valid, then we are better able to accept all experiences, philosophies, and truths as truth. All probabilities and possibilities are valid and experienced at some level of consciousness. All fiction is nonfiction in the greater truth, and they are simply human or physical conventions.

I write my Nonfiction, Fictional articles early Sunday morning before I go for breakfast. In the course of the two hours that it takes me to write a 1600 word article like this, I have my shower, get dressed, wash the dishes, take out the garbage and several other chores.

I do not give any thought to what I write about, and it just flows out of me naturally. When I sit down to the keyboard and monitor, my mind is blank and the harder I try to write something, the less the results. Most often I do not know what I am going to write about before I start. I close my eyes for a few moments and try not to think about anything.

I accepted long ago that what I have to say or write about is valid, it has purpose and meaning. No matter how far fetched the words or thought, I try not to interfere and just let it come out. The fear of being crazy, stupid or uninformed left me long ago once I allowed the words to come out. This article is philosophical (nonfiction) but it comes from a fictional thought process that I used to think was mine, it is not!

I encourage all those that come to me for guidance to just sit down and let it all out, no matter how outrageous, how unintelligent or gifted it may seem. No one has to read it, it doesn’t have to be published, and you can tear it up when you are finished. By sitting down and starting to write, you will develop a process that works for you, you will be totally amazed at what you have locked inside. When I do read some of my stuff, I wonder, “Wow,” was that me, that’s not bad! Did I write that?

If you have visited my web site at klienwachter.com and read my articles you will remember that I have said many times I write for myself first and that is my truth. I do not have a need for others to read my words. I have however come to terms with my ego that wishes to be recognized as an author. I speak from the spiritual part of myself that is not physical and I agreed with my ego to allow it the freedom to publish and print these articles. We have made peace and the ego understands that recognition my not come and that it is a probability that may or may not be experienced. On this we agree.

Spirit makes itself known or physically experienced through the words that are recorded for the benefit of the ego.

You have something to say, and your thoughts need to be expressed in the physical world and it is done in an infinite number of ways. Writing is just one way. But do not back down because you believe your writing is not valid or important. Also realize that it may not be accepted by others and know that it doesn’t really matter.

Write for yourself first and set your imagination free. Nonfiction is fiction finding expression and recognition in the physical world. It has no meaning except for the meaning given it by those who read the words.

Zimmer Durom Cup Hip Device Recall Not Good for Hip Implant Recipients

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Many patients who got durom applied in their hip cup replacement surgical processes are finding that there are difficulties that far surpass the typical expectations for recuperation. These patients are feeling a lot of excess anguish for lengthier time periods, facing revision surgical operations and elevated medical costs, and losing revenue by not being able to work at their regular occupations. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is postulating that that their hip replacement implant in no way imperfect and have basically denied blame for the faulty surgical procedures, several individuals are filing cases against them and obtaining settlements.

In October, 2008 Zimmer announced that it had set-aside $47.5 million to pay for lawsuits they had received. Many physicians are not 100% convinced that the hip implant device is not the problem as the company has publicly stated. In Point Of Fact, when Zimmer tendered online coaching to docs in order to instruct them what they said were more precise techniques for executing the implant surgical procedure, half of the physicians refused to take part. Thus, the whole situation proceeds to be disagreeable for everyone involved, but none more than the hundreds of implant recipients who are looking forward to revision surgical process due to the issues with their implant coming loose in the socket.

These suffering patients definitely deserve some aid and compensation which is the main reason product liability lawyers are telling them to initiate the filing of a lawsuit. durom metal has been paying some of these claims, too. Nonetheless, even if the money they are being offered seems like it could be a air settlement, in many cases patients are settling too quickly and without clause put in place for on-going issues if pain returns. If they don’t hold off and wait, to find out what an actual case is worth, individuals could find themselves paying thousands of dollars out of their own pocket when further complications return.

For anyone who thinks they do have a claim against Zimmer may consider looking into it. If you imagine you might qualify, you should telephone a attorney to find out for sure. Try to find a lawfirm that operates nationally and specializes in litigation against faulty medical devices. This law firm has taken out all the risks and has setup a special section to do the research and process claims against Zimmer and win substantial settlements for their clients.

If your orthopedic physician lets you know that you require a revision surgical process to resolve your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, contact an lawyer as soon as humanly possible.

Article Writing & Promotion – Your Fast Track To Sales & Profits

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Writing articles, and promoting them for publication, is one of the most productive long-term promotional tactics available. Well researched and written articles… which provide valuable, useable information, are highly sought after by newsletter publishers, magazines, ezines, etc.

It is a marketing truth that “Content Is King”. Good, keyword rich, content is what drives online traffic through search engines and gives the visitor a reason to keep coming back to a website. This is often referred to as “sticky content”. As a traffic-generation tool it is unsurpassed.

Webmasters and publication editors have an insatiable appetite for tightly written “niched” articles that are relevant to their web sites or publications themes.

This need is your opportunity…

An editor of an ezine, newsletter or magazine has a never-ending need for good content. Each issue they publish must be filled with useful, relevant content that will appeal to their readers or subscribers self-interest. A publication that cannot provide great content will not long survive.

————————————————————

“An editor of an ezine, newsletter, or magazine has a never-ending
need for good content.”

————————————————————

By regularly supplying the media with well written articles, you build a never-ending supply of links and traffic to your own websites.

How?… Well, the secret is in the bio. Each article you submit for publication has your own “authors bio” that gives full attribution and links to your site. This is the payment you receive for having supplied the articles… it is a payment which gives you long-term dividends!

Not only will your article be presented to many thousands of subscribers initially… but those same articles (with your bio and links) will be archived on the publications websites. Those archived articles become fodder for search engines which not only provide on-going traffic to the publishing site… but to YOU as well. It is truly a Win/Win proposition.

NOT A WRITER?… NO PROBLEM…

There are countless freelance writers who will “ghost write” articles for you and… giving you the copyrights. I know of many well-known names in the industry who have articles plastered all over the internet…and they have never written a word themselves. I know this because I have written some of their articles. :-)

If you need such services try elance or do a Google search for “ghost writing” or “freelance writers”. There are many highly educated, english speaking, foreign-based professionals who will write articles for very nominal fees.

OK… YOU HAVE AN ARTICLE… NOW WHAT?

Having a good article is only the first part of the equatiion… now you need to get the articles distributed to those editors and publications who will welcome your contribution… and publish your work.

There are three primary means of promoting your articles:

==> Article Directories

==> Article Announcment Lists

==> Your Internal List

==> Paid Distributiion Services & Software

Here is a breakdown of each… and a list of resources to
get you started…

ARTICLE DIRECTORIES…

Article directories are websites which categorize and archive your articles… and promote them to editors and publishers. Most are free… but some are fee based. They all provide a submission system for you to provide your articles to them. In addition, most have their own internal list of editors and publishers that they announce your new article to.

TIP: The simple act of listing your articles in the directory archives will provide you instant incoming links to your website which could increase your site traffic and page ranks.

Here is a partial list of article directories. (Please note
that companies go out of business occasionally and you may
run into a link which no longer works.)

ARTICLE ANNOUNCEMENT LISTS…

Announcement Lists are email newsletters, lists, or
ezines, which allow you to “announce” your new articles
to thousands of editors and publishers instantly. Most
of these announcement lists are sent out daily to their
subscribers. This means that you can have your article
circulating to key editors and publishers within hours
of completion.

Here are a number of important Article Announcement Lists
that will give you a simple and fast mechanism for distribution of your articles…

YOUR INTERNAL, IN-HOUSE, DISTRIBUTION LIST…

Over time you will begin to build a list of editors and
publishers, who have used your articles in the past, and
find them to be relevant. This list is “your private goldmine”. Each time you finish an article the first step you want to take is to send it, in a private mailing, to your in-house user list.

You might want to consider doing a “mail merge” to this list and personalize your submission to the specific editor by name.

Remember, this list could be worth thousand of dollars to you over the coming months and years. Do not treat it lightly. This list is truly a center-of-influence list that you will want to spend time and effort nuturing. Remembering them at holidays and on special occasions, goes a long way to building a profitable relationship.

Pick up a phone and call them. Let them know that you appreciate your relationship… and let them know you are available for special writing assignments. (Here is an example of how strong and beneficial this simple act can be… About two years ago I sent a small holiday gift [a screen-saver of tropical Hawaiian images] to a magazine editor who had used a number of my articles in the past.

I waited until the package had time to arrive and then I picked up a phone and called her. She was delighted with the thoughtfulness of the gift and then stunned me with the news that one of her regular columnists had been forced to resign… and “would I be interested in replacing him?”. So… that simple telephone call resulted in a regular column in a print magazine that serves one of my niche marketplaces. A marvelous result that may not have happened if I had not “nurtured the relationship”.

Ask them “What Articles Do You Need?”… and listen closely to their answers.

By doing so… you will develop a sense of what materials are needed and wanted in your marketplace. Write specifically to those needs and you will develop a strong editorial following that will pay off in huge traffic flow, increased sales and profits, and an enhanced image and reputation. These are pretty hefty benefits for some time spent researching and writing articles!

PAID DISTRIBUTION SERVICES…

Two recent innovations that have burst on the article marketing scene are: (1)custom distribution software (Article Announcer) and (2) web-based article distribution services (Article Marketer). My experience with these systems are that the web-based service is much more cost efficient, easier to use, and has the built-in advantage of having the most current and up-to-date database of publishers seeking your content.

Auto Insurance Rates – Texas

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

TX Auto Insurance Requirements by Law

  • Bodily Injury Liability: $25,000/$50,000 Limit
  • Property Damage Liability: $25,000 Limit

*Higher limit requirements moved into effect on 4/1/08

Texas auto insurance laws abide by a tort system. This entails that a driver will always be found to be blameful in an auto accident. This driver and their insurance company are then held financially responsible to cover any damages. The specific laws for Texas may be different from other states..

You can utilize uninsured driver coverage to cover bodily injury caused by an uninsured and/or underinsured driver (depending on the state). This coverage isn’t required in Texas, but it is recommended to at least examine if this specific type of coverage would be best for you.

With the average insurance rate in Texas in 2003 at around $932, and the national average at around a bit below $1000, a high number of residents incorrectly believe that they have no choice but to accept that these Texas auto insurance prices defined by insurance firms and Texas governmental agencies. The world wide web is a wonderful place to start getting cheaper quotes. There are various companies that permit you instantly evaluate insurance quotes.

Sites like this can help you find the best insurance rates, but there’s no guarantee that they can help. Insurance Premiums generally go up over the years. 2007 saw the first decrease in costs since 1999. The decrease was around 1% and the decrases continued through most of 2008. However, by the end of 2008, insurance premiums again began to increase.

Insurance premiums fluctuate over the years and if you don’t at least look into getting discount expenses, you may end up paying more than you have to. Auto insurance fluctuates and recently there was an increase of 6% from 2002 to 2003. You won’t see your insurance company always telling you about premium discounts and overall, premiums get more expensive over time. To compare insurance quotes, use the power of the internet and visit sites that will help you find the lowest auto insurance expenses in Texas.

Easy Ways for Writers to Approach Editors, Agents and Publishers with Greater Confidence

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

A recent study showed that most freelance journalists dislike calling editors more than any other part of the job. Whether you’re selling your ideas to editors, agents or publishers, these simple steps will give you confidence boosting tips and ideas you can start using immediately.

KNOW THAT YOU’VE DONE YOUR BEST

When you approaching an editor with a query / proposal or completed article or an agent or publisher with a book proposal or completed manuscript, make sure your writing is the best it can possibly be.

Author Julia Bell confessed that when she was an aspiring writer, she would hope that the postal system would magically transform work she knew, deep down, wasn’t good enough.

START AN ACHIEVEMENTS LOG

Spend 30 minutes to begin with listing everything you can think of. From your first sale to a national publication to learning how to cartwheel when you were 7, creating a list of things you are proud of yourself for (even if, to begin with, you don’t honour them as worthy achievements) will help boost your core esteem.

THINK OF A TIME WHEN YOU FELT SUPREMELY CONFIDENT

Your Achievements Log will have got you into a better frame of mind for this. Have a look at what you have so far and think of a time when you felt invincible.

Take a few deep breaths and remember all the details of this moment. What were you doing? How did you feel? What could you see and hear and smell? Create an anchor in your mind so that anytime you feel insecure, you can remember this moment and boost your confidence instantly.

STAND UP STRAIGHT!

Your parents were right. Posture matters. Not only does slouching damage your spine if repeated overt time but it has a negative impact on your self-esteem.

Even on the phone, standing up will lend your voice more confidence and authority.

STOP DOING AND START BEING

We spend so much time in Doing Mode (problem solving and generally trying to keep up with the frantic To Do lists we set ourselves) that our cerebral cortex becomes more developed than the sensory cortex.

Even if you only spend a couple of minutes a day, you will reap benefits as you learn to reconnect on a regular basis with your calm, positive, whole centre.

FLEX YOUR POSITIVE THINKING MUSCLES

It’s a well known fact that we achieve what we think we can achieve. Without self-belief, humans would never have discovered fire, let alone the internet!

For example, if you are worried that your reader (editor / agent / publisher) won’t like what you’ve written, imagine them loving it. These positive thoughts will make you feel better each time you visualise your happy outcome.

IDENTIFY ALL YOUR SUPPORT

Many writers buy into the “it’s a lonely life” propaganda and miss out on all sorts of support because they simply don’t acknowledge it.

Take some time to appreciate the support you already have. It might be great to add an agent, publisher, sales team, entourage to this list but who do you have right now?

Some e-forums will also help you gain advice from more experienced writers (see www.applecoaching.com links page for some suggestions)

STEP INTO YOUR POWER

Yes, the editor / agent / publisher you have identified is your # 1 choice but she or he is not all powerful.

If rejected (or ignored), do something nice for yourself to honour your disappointment but don’t wallow. Get into a resourceful state so you are ready to try again with more success!

Review In 29 Steps Plus One

Monday, March 16th, 2009

I just finished to read a book. A story for kids (yes, I like them), interesting, told with participation and sometimes irony.

Which is the problem, then? Simple, if the author have been reading “How to Write a Children’s Book in 30 Days or Less” by Caterina Christakos, he could have written it decidedly better.

There aren’t outcrying defects, but something doesn’t work. The characters seem a little flat, descriptions o vercome the story, the author sometimes appears between the lines…

Who is Caterina Christakos, anyway? She is an actress, protagonist of the film “Alone and Restless”, and a model for companies like Physique and Sephora.

She is also a published author of books like: “And Dreams Lost Along the Way”, “If I Could Remember All the Things She Forgot”, “How to Completely Blow Your Competition Away at Any Audition” and many articles (search the net).

And she also wrote “How to Write a Children’s Book in 30 Days or Less”. A book that shines like a small jewel. Of course, exists plenty of books teaching to write, addressed to beginners or published authors.

This book is different. It’s truly packed with useful advices since the first page. It’s a book to use, read, study, take and retake, accompanying you as you write *your* book.

It is dense of precious tips. Sure, not all is new. Some techniques can be found in other books, in writing courses, in internet sites…

For example, to carry always a pad and pen, to talk with childrens, to prevent the ill-famed writer’s block, to open the story with a bang… Tips perhaps already known, but here they succeed in composing an harmonic, progressive whole, a structured and organized plan.

The things become interesting when Caterina Christakos explains how to create *incredible* characters. And, incredibly, her method is one of the simplest and more intuitive.

Use the common sense, she recommends, look at people around you. Think of them as characters: your uncle behind the store counter, your cousin as a tender school-teacher, that limping boy with thick glasses as a brave hero who saves his friends…

What? You know nobody? Fear not. Switch on the television, leaf through the magazines, surf the net. But then, why to limit yourselves to the human race? In many other species you will find characters for your book.

The main point is this: you must know your characters. And to know them you must sketch their biography. Not only their height, eyes color, mannerisms, but above all their soul and mind, the experiences that forged them, the strong points and the weaknesses…

Write, write pages about them. Perhaps no one of those traits will appear in the final draft. This is not a problem: these qualities will help you to understand what your characters will make in a specified situation.

Many times will be just your characters who indicate how to pull them from intricate situations, to advance the story, to resolve the problems that will spring out along the road…

The central part of the book is… the ending! It indicates the day by day activities that will allow you to create a draft, edit it, breathe life into your characters, prepare the manuscript for publication – eventually publish it yourselves as an e-book.

All this in thirty days.

Look at the calendar on the wall in front of you, or open your diary… Which day is today? Well, between thirty days you could have finished your first book. Or your second, third… who knows?

Thirty days. Thirty-short-days.

Perhaps you will not produce twelve books this year… Not even Caterina Christakos seems to have made it, as far as I know.

Nevertheless, in thirty days you will succeed to create a story with vivid, lifelike characters, that will touch the reader’s heart.

And you will not have to neglect your daily activities: for example to bath the dog, vacuum the house, do the laundry, follow your preferred show…

But it doesn’t end here. Caterina Christakos makes an interesting recommendation, hard to be found in other books: use your imagination! In a new way.

Every writer possesses imagination, fantasy, ability to “see things”. But often he uses it only to see herself as a scribbler that nobody will ever esteem, an author that the critics will demolish without mercy, a dreamer that no editor will want to publish.

The author invites to make the same, to use the imagination, but this time in a positive manner, in order to create a “treasure map”.

The “treasure map” is a sort of great screen in which to see yourselves reaching the success, leafing with satisfaction through your published book, or signing in the middle of a fans crowd.

It’s a technique useful not only to reach the success as a writer, but also to achieve whichever goal in your life.

You can have your copy of “How to Write a Children’s Book in 30 Days or Less” visiting webpage of Caterina Christakos at: http://www.howtowriteachildrensbook.com

What else? Your copy, grab it as soon as possible.

And now… see you in thirty days (or less)!
